ICYC: Weather Policy

A. In General:

Our priority is your enjoyment! No one wants to go out on the water in awful weather. Feel free to call to discuss the weather forecast and potential change of plans. Most of the time, the weather is great!

All Island Chill Yacht Charter cruises can sail regardless of weather temperature and humidity. Mostly, summer is warm-hot with high humidity, sometimes with 'pop-up' or 'warm/cold front' thunderstorms. Spring and Fall seasons are cooler, less humid with good breezes. So, expect the temperature, humidity, sunshine, maybe a shower, water temperatures and other weather parameters predicted for Annapolis that readily found in forecasts from the United States National Weather Service and/or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Data Buoy Center, Station TPLM2 - Thomas Point, MD. Please bring appropriate clothing, sunscreen, your personal medications and any special food requirements. Weather is usually predictable and thunderstorms visible on Doppler Radar, (which we closely monitor). We avoid them.

B. Rain - Thunderstorms - Wind:

  1. If the weather forecasts from the National Weather Service and/or the Thomas Point Station TPLM2  is simply 'chance of showers', 'scattered thunderstorms', 'isolated thunderstorms' or 'chance of thunderstorms', your cruise will go ahead; we do not offer refunds because such conditions are expected in the summer months of Maryland. We are glad to discuss a safe, fun route and activities with you prior to our departure. Generally, we avoid these passing thunderstorms by consulting with Doppler Radar and/or stay closer to port.
  2. 'Continuous or 100% chance of rain'  If the National Weather Service and/or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather forecast is for 'continuous' or '100% chance of rain', we do not depart, and the date of your charter can be rescheduled at no charge for any equivalent un-booked time slot. If guests do not wish to reschedule and cancel their charter; there will be a $150 cancellation fee per boat.
  3. Small Craft Advisories These are issued by the National Weather Service or NOAA and generally inform of significant wind and/or waves. Irie Vibes will sail the South River, as she usually does, without entering the Chesapeake Bay (generally winds and waves are much lower on the South River because of protection from land). Therapy will set sail (reefed Main Sail and/or partially Furled Jib) accordingly, and will enjoy either a South River cruise or, if you say so, an exhilarating time under sail on the Chesapeake Bay, reliving the excitement of seafaring cultures like the Polynesian Pacific Islanders who made amazing voyages throughout the Pacific, the Inuit of the North, Greek, Chinese and Phoenician traders; and sailors like Joshua Slocum, James Cook, John Paul Jones, Ferdinand Magellan, John Smith, Admiral Horatio Nelson, Earnest Shackleton, Sir Francis Chichester, Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz, Jeanne Socrates and Robin Knox-Johnson. And, of course, the crew of Island Chill Yacht Charters :-0).
  4. Small Craft Warning (as distinct from 'Advisory'). If the National Weather Service and/or the NOAA and/or the U.S. Coast Guard issues a Small Craft Warning (as distinct from 'Advisory') for the Chesapeake Bay, we do not depart and the date of your charter can be rescheduled at no charge for any equivalent un-booked time slot. Generally, we will call you the day before your charter, although Advisories/Warnings can be unpredictable. If guests do not wish to reschedule and cancel their charter; there will be a $100 cancellation fee per boat.
